The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute (Single & Album Fan Reconstruction) (2005) Album / Bootleg Download

I don't do this for any credit or income. All respective rights go to The Mars Volta's members and those who participated on the album. This is just the work of a fan who really loves the music these people have created and deeply respects them and thanks them for their efforts.

The fabrication of Frances The Mute let The Mars Volta experiment and expand their musical and creative horizons as much as they were able to. Both production and recording duties had been taken over by Omar Rodriguez Lopez himself, with some segments that were used on the album being used as part of jams on live performances. However, the final product didn't come out as planned. Due to the limited space on the CD, the band was not able to fit the original opener, which was later released as a separate single with the vinyl version of the album, and the different segments from the songs came with some errors due to misprints, and a supposedly rushed package creation, with such mistakes as the Cassandra Gemini song being misprinted as "Cassandra Geminni" and some of its original segments sneaking into Miranda's, making the closing track appear as if only had five movements/sections.

All this was somewhat fixed with the digital version, where the four main tracks stayed as long songs, but the seven segments of Cassandra being separated and having their titles properly changed. However, the title track was still not implemented, now due to a lot of different factors, from label issues to artistic purposes. An official vinyl repressing has long been awaited, and, with the rumors of such a thing being in the work for both De-Loused and Frances, with this last one also rumored to finally getting the title track as the opener, I've decided to take my attempt at reconstructing the original album applying changes so it resembles what it was supposed to be.

Attempts at this have been many, most notably a "complete" version going around and also a "remixed" version being on youtube, but they have their own share of problems. The "Complete/double disc" version uses the single version of Frances, so the cut is somehow sudden and not flowing well with the album, with the rest of the tracks having sudden stops resembling their original vinyl counterparts. Meanwhile, the youtube version has a rough attempt at creating a transition from Frances to Cygnus, but it also cuts down a lot of the atmospheric sections/interludes that came before the songs, making it an abridged version that feels, at least in my opinion, incomplete.
(Both of those being found here:

Not to disrespect them, but rather bring the best of both worlds together, here is my attempt at creating a "proper" mix of the album, with the single as the opener, the tracks with their respective lengths, a non-stop flow, among many other things.

Enjoy :)

+Notable Changes On The Release+

-320kbs sound quality

-Implementing the "Frances The Mute" single as the opener, mixing the end part so it connects directly to Cygnus to keep a consistent flow

-Mixing all the tracks so that they flow right into each other without sudden skips

-Cassandra Gemini having it's complete length, getting all parts, from Pisacis (or in the case of the digital version, Cassandra Gemini) to Sarcophagi

-All using the original rips in order to not lose quality

-The cover used is part of the original artwork, being an alternative version of the original cover

-Custom lyrics added, but also presented on this notepad for convenience purposes

  1. Hey, first of all thank you for all the work you put into this! I was wondering if there was any possibility of a Lossless release, in FLAC format for example. I'd be happy to convert your source files into FLAC for you, let me know if this is something you'd be interested in, thanks again!

    1. I'm going to release a remaster of this fan mix soon, using the mixes present on the recent Realidad box, and do my best to add the Frances single to it among other things considering I'm going to be working with vinyl sources. Will post them as soon as they are done!
